The need to introduce computers in Edgerton University Libraries have beenrnemphasized in this document. The document particularly discusses the need torncomputerize the catalogue system which is the main access to the libraries' holdings.rnApplication of IT In Kenya has been briefly discussed with particular reference tornspecific areas in libraries that have benefited from computerizationrn. Analysis of Edgerton University in terms of its structure and functions carried outrnIn the various library sections have been discussed with particular reference to therncatalogue and the cataloguing process. The results of questionnaire and interview surveysrnof the library users, library personnel as well as the computer vendors in Kenya have alsornbeen presented and analyzed. Findings from the literature review on various libraryrnmanagement software packages and in particular, the OPAC features they offer have beenrndiscussed.rnUser requirements and desired features of the proposed system which wererndefined following the analysis of the survey findings as well as literature review havernalso been documented.rnEULOPAC, a prototype system has been designed to demonstrate how thernproposed system can work. Prototype databases for monographs, serials, reports andrncartographic materials were developed following MARC format, in CDSIISIS platform.rnProgram source codes had to be developed using ISIS Pascal to develop an OPACrninterface. These prototype databases as well as the developed interface have beenrndiscussed. A strategy for implementation was developed and this has been presented inrnchapter eight.
