Human capital formation particularly in the field ofrnEducation has long been considered as an important factor inrndevelopment be it social or economic . But when we talk ofrndevelopment the balance between regions, balance in the servicernof education itself, balance between urban and rural areas andrnbetween the genders should be taken into consideration. Inrnthis work the role of education in the balanced development ofrnEthiopia is dealt with . Oromia region is also taken as a casernstudy among regions . Thus, primarily, whether education hasrncontributed to development in the country is dealt with andrnadjoined to it whether the achieved development is balanced orrnnot is the focus of this work .rnAccordingly, both primary and secondary data are collectedrnand dealt with in view of education and development inrnEthiopia. The result of the analyses shows that although thernexisting education was better than no education, as there wasrnno practicable education sector strategy for the development ofrnthe country, the goal that could have been reached is far fromrnbeing achieved. Moreover the result of the study shows that asrnthere was a disparity in the educational supply, this isrnconsequently reflected in the meager achievement it has got onrndevelopment. Consequently, dispari ty between genders,rnurban/rural areas and regions is witnessed . Thus, the studyrnfinally is completed with necessary recommendations.
