Objectives of the study were to Measure the food security level of households in the study area, Identifyrndeterminants of food security and investigate the contribution of irrigation to food security. Quantitativernand qualitative approach was used to generate empirical data to help address the condition. The studyrnconsisted sample of 108 households selected through cluster multistage sampling. Food Consumption Score,rnHousehold Food Insecurity Access Scale, Descriptive statistics, Econometric model and Propensity ScorernMatching were the analysis tools in the study and The findings showed that the research area werernthreatened by food insecurity even if it is in a improved condition comparing to other Woredas in additionrnirrigation contribution for food security was not found as expected based on Propensity Score Matching.rnSince, non-participants of irrigation were found to be food secure as that of the irrigation users. Anrninferential relationship was computed using Pearson correlation and t-test analysis to investigate thernrelationship between various variables and the econometric model (Tobit) result showed that amongrnfourteen variables eight variables were significant and they affect food security at different significancernlevel.rnBased on the results obtained, the following implications are found to be of paramount importance:rnagricultural production activities shall be assisted with enough market information and to offer the productsrnto market infrastructure shall be developed, agricultural activities shall focus on increase household incomernand reduce food insecurity, as well agricultural extension practices shall focus on the benefits of havingrnmodern livestock raring practices for the purpose of milking and irrigation practices to come up withrneffective results.rnKey words: food security, irrigation, propensity score matching, Food Consumption Score, Determinants,rnTobit Regression
