The main objective of the study was to assess and identify the potentials ofrngovernment secondary high school teachers and to determine whether therernwere challenges (factors) that affected them to practice educational research.rnThe target populations for the study were teachers' in government secondaryrnhigh schools in all sub-cities in Addis Ababa. Due to ·the large population size, arnrepresentative sample was drawn from each sub-city using stratified samplingrntechnique. The type of study used included both qualitative and quantitativernmethods. In order to collect data, Questionnaire, Interview, Focused GrouprnDiscussion and Document Analysis were employed as instruments. Data wasrncollected both from Primary and Secondary sources. The Primary data wasrnobtained directly from the sample teachers using questionnaires and from schoolrnprincipals and Sub-city officers using semi-structured interview: Data were alsorncollected from FGD and documents for triangulating. The findings of the studyrnshowed that most teachers in government secondary high schools in AddisrnAbaba have potentials to practice educational research, however, there werernadministrative factors, institutional factors and personal factors that challengedrnthem to involve in research practice. To alleviate these problems the studyrnconcluded by recommending the Sub-city administrations and the institutionsrnneed to minimize the factors that challenged teachers to practice educationalrnresearch in order to use the maximum potentials of teachers
