The purpose of t his study is to a ssess the status 0 f educationalrnresearch and the availability 0 f basic requirements for research in OromiarnRegional State. Education contributes a great deal to the production ofrnskilled and capable man power a certain country requires for its economic,rnsocial and political development. Likewise, educational research is anrnimportant instrument for the development of education and the improvementrnof quality of education. It seems that it is with this understanding of thernvalue of research that the current Education and Training Policy of Ethiopiarndeclares that focus will be given to the complimentary implementation ofrneducational research and education. However, the focus given to its eemsrnnegligible and no satisfactory research is being conducted in the educationrnsystem especially in secondary a nd primary schools. Therefore, t his studyrnintends to assess the state of educational research in Oromia Regional Staternand the availability of basic requirements for research involvement. To thisrnend, descriptive survey method was employed and two types ofrnquestionnaires were prepared and distributed to 240 teachers and 24 schoolrnprincipals and deputy principals working in twelve secondary schoolsrnselected using stratified random sampling and availability samplingrntechniques respectively. The Oromia education bureau head a nd delegatedrnpersonnel, three zonal education office heads or deputy office heads werernalso interviewed in their respective offices. The data collected werernpresented using frequency tables and graphs and analyzed using percentagesrnand weighted mean averages. The findings disclosed that the state ofrneducational research undertaking is low and no satisfactory research is beingrndone in the region due to lack of resources, knowledge, experiences, suitablernresearch strategies and lack of institutional set up that can facilitate researchrnand wrong conception and perspectives. Based on the findings, conclusionsrnwere reached and possible recommendations were forwarded.
