An Assessment Of Managerial Problems Of Foreign Assisted Distance Education Project In Southern Nations Nationalities And Peoples Region (snnpr)

This thesis is based on the findings of research study entitled Assessment of ManagerialrnProblems of Foreign Assisted Distance Education Project in Southern NationsrnNationalities and Peoples Region. The main purpose of the study was to investigate thernmajor managerial problems, which could contribute to ineffective implementation. Tornthis end, a descriptive study method was employed to investigate what the actualrnmanagement of a distance education project looks like. The sample population was all therndistance education project students and coordinators. The sample was selected from 23rntutorial centers, and coordinators at each tutorial centers and coordinators at a regionalrn• level on the basis of purposive sampling technique. The subject of the study was 400rndistance students, 10 tutorial center coordinators and 6 regional coordinators.rnAccordingly, the respondent sampling was carried out through purposive and randomrnsampling techniques. Information was obtained through questionnaires, interviews andrndocuments. The information gathered was analyzed by tabulating the frequencies andrncalculating percentages. The results indicate that the distance education project in thernregion was not effective due to managerial problems such us lack of implementingrncapacity of managers, lack of on time distance education materials distribution, lack ofrntraining and experience of project implementing bodies, lack of sense of commitment,rnresponsibility and accountability of implementing personal, lack of clear communication,rnlack of necessary facilities and equipment and lack of effective evaluation and controlrnmechanisms. Hence it is concluded that the region is suffering from serious managementrnproblems that resulted in poor project implementation. Thus it is recommended that thernRegional Education Bureau should take the findings and the conclusion arrived drawn inrnthis study in to account and arrange for coordinated effort by specifying who isrnresponsible and accountable for what aspect of the project, designing a clearrncommunication channel to avoid confusions and take corrective measures at the spot, inbuildrneffective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to see the progress of the project.rnThis thesis has been submitted for examination with my approval as a Universityrnadvisor.
