This study has been set out to focus on the attitude of instructors and technicalrnassistants towards their performance evaluation with reference to Hawassa University.rnIn order to accomplish the study, basic questions on their attitude towards the purpose,rnadministration, face-to-face evaluation, students', colleagues', and department heads'rnevaluation, and the effectiveness of the evaluation instruments/forms have been raisedrnto be answered .rnDescriptive survey method was employed to conduct the research. One sample t-test,rnone-way ANOVA, and mean comparisons were also used in the analysis. The studyrnfound out that instructors and technical assistants showed positive attitude towardsrnsuch aspects as the purpose, administration, face-to-face evaluation. Moreover, thernrespondents demonstrated favorable attitude towards students' and colleagues'rnevaluation . In addition , the assessors included in students', colleagues' and departmentrnheads' rating instruments were perceived as appropriate, useful, and applicable byrnrespondents. However, they showed negative attitude towards department heads'rnevaluation.rnFurthermore, Significant attitudinal variation among respondents towards the purpose ofrnevaluation, students' evaluation and department heads' evaluations by qualificationsrnwere also the findings of the study. There were also significant attitudinal variationrnamong respondents towards the administration of the evaluation and towardsrncolleagues evaluation by teaching experiences.rnFinally, based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations werernforwarded:rn• Faculties/colleges should provide adequate orientation to students about thernpurpose of faculty teaching performance evaluation.rn• Faculties/colleges should arrange training program to instructors and technicalrnassistants on the purpose and administration of faculty teaching performancernevaluation.rn• Faculties/colleges should continuously revise the assessors of the faculty ratingrninstruments and include some standard open-ended questions that invite thernevaluators to offer suggestions for improvement.rn• Training to department heads, about how to make effective evaluation, shouldrnbe given and items concerning the academic aspect should be included in therndepartment heads' rating forms.rn• Face-to-face evaluation should be applied so that instructors can get timelyrnfeedback about their strength and weaknesses from students.rn• Comprehensive research should be done at a national level by the MOE inrncollaboration with the universities of the country.
