The mazn of this study was to assess the socio-cultural factors thatrninfluence the educational participation of Majangir students in primaryrneducation and identify possible intervention strategies to alleviate therneducational problem of Majangir students.rnTo this end, a descriptive survey method was employed. A part fromrnconclusion of documents from relevant sources, data were gathered fromrn260 Majangir students,130 teachers,15 education experts, 15 schoolrnprincipals and 20 educated Majanger ethnic people or parents. SystematicrnRandom, purposeful and available sampling or applying diversifiedrnsampling techniques were used for selecting respondents. Percentage,rnmean, ANOVA, Scheefe methods and qualitative descriptive methods werernemployed to analyze the results of data obtained from questionnaire,rninterview, focus group discussion and document analysis.rnThe data from documentary analysis indicated that the status of thernMajangir students in the zone is low. Based on findings from datarnanalysis, the socio-cultural factors like early marriage, belitting of thernvalue of education (specially that of girls), poor family background, lack ofrnparental encouragement and support, low school community relation, poorrnchild parent interaction, low attitude of the society towards education,rngender role socialization and stereotyping, fear of marriage of Majangirrngirls out of their tribe, lack of role model and low self conception, lack ofrnmarket center, very low family income, working condition and poor livingrnstandard and very high illiteracy rate in the society have been identifiedrnas major influencing factors in the educational participation of Majangirrnstudents.rnHence, it is conclude that, in most cases, the participation of Majangirrnstudents in the primary schools of the zone was a function of socio-culturalrnfactors.rnDepending on the results of findings, creation of awareness about thernvalue of education, flexible educational calendar, sensitization of thernsociety, boarding schools, parental counseling, provision of non10rmalrneducation and developing new technology in the area were recommended.
