The purpose of this study was to assess the practice of School Based,rnSupervis ion in Addis Ababa governmental secondary schools and inrnidentifying constraints and potential opportunities in School BasedrnSupervision.rnThe study was conducted in eight governmental secondary schools inrnthree kijle ketemas of Addis Ababa Administration on the basis ofrnpurposive and simple random sampling techniques. A total of onernhundred fifty six subjects were included in this study, among theserneighty one were teachers and seventy two school based supervisorsrndrawn from the sample schools and three were field supervisors fromrnsub city education offices.rnTo conduct this study, the descriptive survey method was employed,rndata were collected mainly through closed and open-endedrnquestionnaire and in addition interview guide and document analysisrnwere also used. The frequency and frequency percentage were used forrndata analysis.rnFindings of the study revealed that, (i) even though the degree ofrnperception are different, all respondents recognize that, in schoolrnprincipal, vice principal, department heads, unit leaders and seniorrnteachers are understood as school based supervisor; (ii) school basedrnsupervision was poorly structured and practiced by school staffrnbecau se of lack of a wareness, negative perception, lack of trainedrnmanpower, etc.; (iii) school based supervisors and teachers perceivedrnthe leadership sleill, competency and roles etc differently.rnOn the basis of the findings it was recommended that in-servicerneducation, professional meeting and experience sharing etc should bernpracticed to create awareness and enhance p0/1icipation ofrnstakeholders to design, plan, implement the program in order torncontribute for the effectiveness and efficiency of governmentalrnsecondalY education.
