Background: Nausea and vomiting remain among the most distressing side effects of treatmentrnwith chemotherapy. Chemotherapy Induced Emesis Can Impair Quality of Life and poor controlrnof emesis can interrupt or force withdrawal from critical chemotherapy. Therefore, Nurses playrncrucial roll toward assessment, prevention, and management of Chemotherapy Induced Nausearnand Vomiting. Knowledge of Nurses to triage patient problems and assist in the evaluation ofrnsymptoms and initiation of interventions, information about the last chemotherapy treatment andrnevidence from the current emesis guideline, guide the nurse in determining the patient'srndisposition and treatment. Therefore, it is important to determine and enhance the nurses’rnawareness and practice toward chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting prophylaxis guidelinernand, reduce barriers that prevents the nurse not to act in line with the guideline.rnObjectives: To assess awareness, practice and perceived barriers toward current CINVrnprophylaxis guideline adherence among nurses working at selected hospitals in Addis Ababa,rnEthiopia, 2019,rnMethods: Institution based descriptive study design was used to conduct the study in selectedrnhospitals, at Addis Ababa, from April1-30, 2019. The study area was selected using purposivernsampling method. Selection of the study participant by population census method from the sourcernpopulation nurses working in oncology units at selected hospitals. Using population censusrnmethod 79 nurses were participated with response rate of 97%. The data was cleared and enteredrnin to EPI-data version 4.2 then exported to SPSS version 24. Data analysis result was described inrnfrequencies, means, and standard deviations, the association of demographic variables with nurse’srnawareness and practice was done using bivariate and multi- vairate logistic regression.rnResult: from the total of 79 nurses 49(62%) were female and the mean age of the participant wasrn29.6±4.08years old. only 60% of the study subject have good awareness where as 59% of thernparticipant have poor practice regarding Chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting guidelinernadherence. being oncology certified[AOR: 1.477; 95% CI (1.110,1.967)and CINV training[AOR:rn1.638; 95% CI(1.213, 2.212)]were significantly associated with CINV awareness.rnConclusion: nurses working in oncology unit have favorable awareness but they didn’t practicernregarding CINV guideline recommendation
