Challenges Faced By Nursing Students During Their Clinical Placement Study Done In Health Science Collages A Mixed Method Study Addis Ababa Ethiopia 2020.
ABSTRACT rnBackground: The clinical learning environment is important to achieve the defined learningrnoutcomes of the program .However; nurse students face a multitude of challenges during theirrnclinical placement.rnObjectives: The objective of the study was to explore challenges experienced by nursingrnstudents during clinical placement and to identify factors affecting clinical practice of nursingrnstudents in four randomly selected public and private institutions collage in clinical placementrnAddis Ababa, rnrnEthiopia, 2020.rnMethod: A mixed method research approach containing Institution based descriptivernquantitative cross sectional study design and qualitative phenomenological method wasrnemployed. This study comprised of 179 third- and fourth-year undergraduate nursing studentsrnselected randomly by using simple random sampling method from their proportion for thernquantitative study and seven purposively selected students for qualitative portion who werernparticipated in quantitative study. Self-administered questionnaire and recording of telephone rninterview were used to collect data. For quantitative data descriptive analysis was employed to rndescribe the percentages and number distributions of the respondents, also Bivariate andrnmultivariable logistic regression analysis was used to see the association of independent with therndependent variable. Crude and adjusted odds ratios together with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals computed. A P-value ≤ 0.05 considered statistically significant in thisrnstudy. The qualitative data were analyzed, the voice recorder of telephone interview wasrntransliterated, read, and review on a number of times and extracting significant statements, rnformulating meanings, and coded, categorizing into clusters of themes using the content analysisrnapproach and using ATLAS ti.Version 7.5.16 qualitative analyses software.rnrnQualitative methodrnwas sequential design only was appropriate for expansion purposes of quantitative data and datarnwas collected from February 15, to April 30, 2020 GC.rn rnResult: The Findings of this study indicated that, the prevalence of challenge among nursingrnstudents was found to be 29 (16.9%).Consequently, in bivariable logistic regression, students’rnreligion, residence, entrance year, learning institution and substance use were found to havernassociation with challenge among nursing students. However, after controlling the effect ofrnconfounding in multivariable analysis the final result confirmed that only substance use [AOR=rnrn8.25 (1.74, 39.04)rn]rn 0.008*rn and learning institution [AOR=rn0.10 (0.01, 0.98)rn]rn 0.048*rn were found tornhave significant association with nursing students challenge. And there was statisticallyrnsignificant negative moderate correlation between students total challenge score and their overallrncompetency score. [r= -0.672, P value =
