School readiness is a process of increasing children’s attainment of a certain set of rnpsychosocial, behavioral and cognitive skills needed to learn and function successfully in school rnand beyond. The objective of the study was to examine school readiness of children in rngovernment and private pre-schools in Gulele sub-city, Addis Ababa. This survey study involved rn147 children in the upper KG level recruited by multi stage cluster sampling technique from six rn(three government and three private) preschools. . Data were collected using international rndevelopment and early learning assessment (IDELA).This scale has been used to assess the rnschool readiness of children in both government and private preschools. Data were analyzed rnusing statistics such as frequency, percentage, t-test and ANOVA. Results revealed that factors rnthat are associated with school readiness of children were school type, educational level of rnparent’s, and monthly household income. Gender and children living condition has no rnsignificant association with any of the domains and total school readiness of children. It is rnconcluded that demographic variables related with children and parents importantly affect rnchildren’s readiness for school and the skills they are expected to acquire to be holistically rnready for formal schooling. It is recommended that further research is needed to establish rnwhether there are other factors that are associated with school readines
