To survive and grow organizations must be constantly kept up to date through effective trainingrnand development programs. Employee training and development is especially important inrnindustries with rapidly changing technology such as shoe industries.rnHaving this in mind, the study has been conducted in Ethiopia shoe factories (ASSC andrnTASSC) to assess employee training and development practices. The methodologies used tornundertake the study were both primary and secondary data collection. Besides to this, the numberrnof participants for this study was 336 employees.rnThe finding of the study revealed that the shoe factories weakness in training and developmentrnpractice such as with respect to periodic and clear need assessment, selection criteria, trainingrnand development methods, training period’s adequacy and training evaluation. However, trainingrnand development was as such good in relation to trainer’s capabilities, stating in training andrndevelopment objectives. Thus, the factories should keep up with their strengths and shouldrnalleviate their weaknesses by applying clear and scientific principles regarding human resourcerntraining and development.rnKey words: Training and development
