This thesis covers the phytochemical investi- gation of two Lupinus species (Lsguminosae), namelyrnL, albus and L. princei.rnin. 2'-Hydroxydai-- 1 ' 'rnj : 1 f . i t » ,rn’ - ’ , , n,e, gP.nus"Lup^n_iJs:< , ,rn’ ‘ . 5 t ^' 1 - - . i !rnL. albus L. known locally as "Gebto" ( Amharic)rni9 a plant which grows widely in Gojjam province.rnChemical investigation of this plant afforded fourrnknown isoflavonoids , namely genistein , 2'- hydroxygenisteinrn, 2* -hydroXydaidzein,rndzein is a new record for ’the Vf rnL # princei Harms loyally * iV.nbvvn ' as "Dc^rgie^ rnGerbie" (Oromo) is an indigenous, pTant 'which grows ! 'rnin Sidamo province. The phyt'ochemical investigationrnof this plant was carried out for the first timernresulting in the isolation of 4 isoflavonoids and a triterpone. The compounds are genistein, 2'-hydro- xygenistein, luteone , 2‘ -hydroxyisolupslbigenin andrnB-sitosterol , This is the second report of 2'-hydroisolupalbigeninrn, which was recently ( 1909) discoveredrnto occur in the roots of L. albus.rnThe structures of the isolated compounds werernprincipally deduced by spectroscopic techniques.
