The voltammetric behavior of aniline and anilinium ion has been studied inrnnitrobenzene as a solvent. T etrabutyl ammonium perchlorate served as a supportingrnelectrolyte in all experiments.rnIn the presence of anilinium ion a cathodic current is observed at about zero Volt, rnwhich we believe is due to the reduction of the proton of the anilinium cation. Thernanodic oxidation of aniline is indicated by a sharp increase in current at about 1 V.rnThe current peak obtained in the first cycle decreases in intensity and at the samerntime shifts to more positive potentials in the course of successive cycles. At negativernpotential scans several reduction peaks are observed. A deposit is formed at thernelectrode which exhibits electrochromic behavior ( blue in the oxidized state andrncolorless in the reduced state.rnThe deposit has been investigated in sulfuric acid and exhibits a voltammetricrnbehavior similar to polyaniline obtained from aqueous acidic solutions.rnThe results of our investigation show the possibility to obtain polyaniline using aproticrnsolvent like nitrobenzene.
