The multidentate ligand, BDTSTHEBD, was synthesized using precursors such as DAAP,rnDAAD, BDTHEBD and thiosemicarbazide and was characterized by FTIR, NMR andrnelectronic spectroscopy. Co (II) and Ni (II)-complexes were synthesized using the ligand,rnBDTSTHEBD, and respective metal chloride in a mole ratio of 1:3 and characterized byrnanalytical studies, FTIR and electronic spectroscopy, conductance, magneticrnsusceptibility measurement and thermal analysis.rnThe non-electrolyte natures of the complexes were ascertained from conductivityrnmeasurements. Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and thermal analysis (TA)rntechniques were also used to characterize the metal complexes. UV-VIS and magneticrnsusceptibility measurements indicate octahedral geometry for Co(II)-complex andrntetrahedral geometry for Ni(II)-complex.rnKey words: Heterocyclic compounds, multidentate ligand, Co (II) and Ni (II)rncomplexes, thiosemicarbazide, synthesis of BDTSTHEBD.
