Attempts On Synthesis And Characterization Of Cu (ii) Complex With A 2 2-dipyridylamine Derivative Graduate Project (chem.774) Submitted To School Of Graduate Studies Addis Ababa
The ligand dpamc (2,2’-dipyridylammoniumchloride) has been synthesized fromrndpa (2,2’-dipyridylamine) and acyl chloride via acylation reaction andrncharacterized on the basis of NMR , UV/Vis and elemental analysis. The Cu (II)rncomplex of this ligand was also synthesized and characterized on the basis ofrnspectral data (UV/Vis, AAS), molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, andrnelemental analysis. The complex formed is proposed to have a square planarrngeometry. The ratio of the ligand to Cu (II) in the complex is 2:1 in which eachrndpa unit acts as a bidentate ligand, coordinating through both pyridyl nitrogensrnto form a six-membered chelate ring. The Cu (II) complex is a 1:2 electrolyternimplying that there are two chloride ions with a complex. The chloride content inrnthe outer sphere of the complex was determined by treatment with silver nitraternsolution and gave a positive result.rnKey words: 2, 2’-dipyridylamine, 2, 2’-dipyridylammoniumchloride,rn2, 2’- dipyridylacetamide, Acyl chloride, Cu(II) complex
