This study examined the resilience status, and the associated riskrnand protective factors of AIDS orphan adolescents living in selectedrntwelve Kebeles of Addis Ababa. 300 respondents who had lost bothrnof their parents to HIVIAIDS disease in the age range of 13-18rnyears were sampled from the Kebeles' lists for this study. ConnorDavidsonrnResilience Scale (CD-RISC) and questionnaire (whichrnassessed individual, familial and social environment information)rnwere administered to the respondents of which 266 valid andrncomplete responses of AIDS orphan adolescents was taken for datarnanalysis. Mean split method showed that 213 of the respondents hadrnatleast average resilience level scores in CD-RISC where as only 113rnwere found to have below average competence level. Usingrnindependent sample T-tests and ANOVA responses to thernquestionnaire were analyzed in relation to respondents' resiliencernscores. The finding showed that gender (females over males);rneducation status; academic performances; living arrangements;rnaccess to basic needs; participating in community activities; accessrnto attachment figures; and coping mechanisms ( looking for advicernand use of prayers over other coping mechanisms) were foundrndirectly related to AIDS orphan adolescents resiliency. On the otherhand, changing living area, crime and substance use prevalence inrnthe area were found to be inversely related to AIDS orphanrnadolescents resiliency. However, age, proximity of years since deathrnof parents, employment and emotional states of respondents werernfound to have insignificant effects on their resilience statuses.rnBased on this research's findings most of the risk and protectivernfactors indicated in resilience theory were found to be applicable tornAIDS orphan adolescents of Addis Ababa, and recommendations onrnhow to apply the theories approaches were indicated finallyrnsignifying required individual, familial, and social environmentrncharacteristics to concerned bodies dealing with positiverndevelopment of AIDS orphan adolescents
