In this thesis work, an integrated geophysical method namely direct current- DC-electrical resistivity sounding (VES) and ground magnetic survey was employed to investigate the lithological and geo-structural setup of the subsurface with implications to groundwater. The geophysical survey primarily focuses on delineating groundwater saturated zones and identifying geological structural features that may act as conduits or barriers for the movement of groundwater in the subsurface. rnThe electrical resistivity data used for this study comprises, 10 VES points previously collected by the Water Works Design and Supervision Enterprise, the geological data has been used for the identification of the depth and extent of potential zones for the groundwater. A total of 121 magnetic data points along 5 profile lines and few randomly located measurements were taken as part of this study. The data were processed by using the appropriate software and, as a result, different profile plots and maps were obtained. Incorporating borehole log information into the geophysical data yield a more realistic interpretation of the hydrologic and geologic setup of the study area. rnJoint appraisal of VES results and magnetic anomalies helped to obtain vital information required for the identifying of plausible groundwater potential zone. From interprate d of geophysical result, highly to moderately fractured and weathered basalt, and highly weathered scoriaceous basalt could be the main aquifer with adequate groundwater potential. The dominant trends of geologic structures identified from VES and magnetic survey are NE-SW and NW-SE directions. rnBased on these interpretations drilling close to these structures into the aforementioned subsurface horizon (groundwater zone) could be of high productivity potential.
