This thesis was aimed at conducting a research study entitled "A Comparative Study ofrnthe Implementation of Apprenticeship Training Program (ATP) of Regular and Extensionrnprograms of St. Mary's University College (SMUC) ". The main purpose of the study wasrnto investigate the similarities and differences in regular and extension programs in termsrnof inputs and processes on the implementation of apprenticeship training program. Inrnlight of this, an attempt was made to look into the basic questions that are related tornmanagerial effectiveness, manpower profile, financial resources, physical facilities, rncurriculum and guidelines as well as evaluation and certification were the focus of thernstudy.rnMethodologically, a comparative method was employed to compare the similarities andrndifferences between regular and extension programs of a private TVET institution namedrnSMUC Availability, random, purposive stratified random sampling and systematicrnsampling techniques were used in identification and selection of subjects of the study.rnThe subjects of the study were 284 trainees, 100 supervisorstrainers of the work place, 3rncoordinators and 2 principals of the SMUC The data drawn were collected by means ofrnquestionnaire, interview, and observation check list and then transcribed for analysis.rnMethod of analysis were employed by using the following statistical tools, such asrnpercentage, chi-square, t-test and ANOVA.rn•rnThe findings of the study revealed that the apprenticeship training were not supported byrnlegal framework similarly for both regular and extension programs, assignment ofrntrainees and selection of organizations were undertaken in haphazard manner for therernwere no preset criteria for both regular and extension programs. As a result of t-testrnthere was significant difference between the two groups. To this effect, the adequacy ofrnwork shop facilities in extension program was better than regular program in the workrnplace. The result of ANOVA also indicates that there were significant differences betweenrnregular and extension programs. Thus, the mean result of apprenticeship training wasrnbetter in regular program than extension program. On the top of this, in school and workrnplace follow-up activities were better in regular program than extension program.rnHence, it was concluded that there were similarities and differences between regular andrnextension programs. Therefore, it is recommended that the employers and SMUC shouldrnbe committed to share their responsibilities for effective implementation of ATP .
