This study was designed to examine the practice, contribution of instructional leadership inrnenhancing student results and its challenges in government primary schools of woreda 12rnNefas silk subcity. Thus, the fundamental objectives of the study were to, identify the currentrninstructional leadership practices, find out the extent to which the instructional leadershiprnpractices effectiveness in the schools, to describe the challenges faced while implementingrnthe leadership practices and to observe the extent to which the instructional leadershiprnpractices have contributed on improving students’ learning outcome. A descriptive surveyrndesign was used in the study. The subjects of the study were the teachers, principals, vicernprincipals, department heads and cluster supervisors. Quantitative method was used torncollect data from both respondents and was guided by three research questions; such as, howrnis the instructional leadership practiced in the primary schools? To what extent do therninstructional leadership practices contributed to enhance students’ performance/academicrnresults? What are the major challenges faced in the implementation of effective leadershiprnpractices? Data were collected by means of questionnaires and document analysis.rnAccordingly, the data obtained through questionnaires were analyzed by using mean valuesrnand standard deviations and the data collected through the open ended questions wererndescribed and analyzed. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the woredarnunder study. Availability sampling techniques were employed to select the principals, clusterrnsupervisors and department heads. Stratified random sampling techniques were used to selectrnteachers based on their rank beginner, proper/main and lead. The total population ofrnteachers’ was 160 and half was taken as a sample and the total population of leaders’ was 48rnand all were taken as a sample. The major findings of the study indicated that practices ofrnleaders and challenges faced while implementing the instructional leadership have impact onrnstudents’ learning outcome. The lack of finance and additional tasks given by woreda officesrnwere among the problems hindering the principals’ to conduct appropriately therninstructional leadership activities. As a result, school leaders were advised to conduct selfassessmentrnand prioritized the problems related to the instructional leadership practicesrnKeywords: PRACTICE, CONTRIBUTION, CHALLENGES, LEADERSHIP, INSTRUCTIONALrnLEADERSHIP.
