The purpose of this study was to find out the practices and challenges of instructionalrnsupervision in three secondary Government schools of Itang special Woreda Administrationrnandto recommend possible solutions. To conduct the study, descriptive survey design wasrnemployed and two appropriate sampling techniques were employed to select the samplernschools and teachers. These were the simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Tornthis end, three secondary schools with 6 school principals and vice principals 15 departmentrnheads, 6o senior teachers and 3 supervisors were included in this study. Questionnaire wasrnthe main data gathering instrument for this study. Thus, 60 teachers teaching in differentrngrade levels filled the questionnaires. Focused Group discussions were held with departmentrnheads and interview was conducted with school principals, vice principals andrnschoolsupervisors to enrich the quantitative data. Descriptive statistics and percentages werernthe main tools used in the analysis. The data gathered through interview and focused grouprndiscussions were discussed in line with thematic analysis. The analysis and the results of thernstudy revealed that the school instructional supervisory practices were ineffective. Schoolrninstructionalsupervisors were involved in the difficult task of supervision without havingrnprior trainings. School supervisors were also inefficient in promoting professionalrncompetence of teachers. Furthermore, the study revealed that problems like lack of trainedrnsupervisory personnel, Lack of budget, lack of support like manuals, lack of training andrnexperience sharing session and others hinder proper implementation of school supervision inrnall the selected schools. Therefore, the Itang Special Woreda Education Office Bureaurnshould support to the schools to improve the practices of School supervisions.
