This study investigated the practice of Value based Education (VbE) by comparing selected government and private schools in Addis Ababa. Thus, the study adopted descriptive survey research design. To achieve the objectives of the study, 276 students were selected by simple random sampling technique. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to gather data .Based on the objectives and questionnaires for students, an in-depth interview also used for teachers, principals and PTA representatives. SPSS 21 version computer software program was used to analyze the collected data so as to come up with suitable findings. Descriptive statistics mainly, cross tabulations, frequency, and mean scores were used in the presentation, analysis and interpretation of the data. The study revealed that, the practical impacts of value based education practice on students’ day to day life and their disciplinary problems .The major findings were the absence of VbE vivid in students’ behaviors or responses as lack of respect and responsibility. It also contributed to break school’s rules and regulations, as well as the students’ negligence towards the core values of the community. The absence of strict follow up of school rules and regulations, the reluctance of parental follow-up on students’ day to day activities, were some of the results found in this study.rnTherefore, Schools should have strict rules and regulations and should be consistent with the measures they take. Awareness should be given to students about the core values like respect and responsibility. Teachers should take time to acquaint students with the elements of identity. Schools should have strong relationships with parents through PTA and should work in coordination with it to handle disciplinary problems or issues. Parents should transmit their core values and work cooperatively with the school and must not be ignorant of their children’s behavior in order to create good citizens. Finally all stakeholders and governmental bodies should also revise the curriculum with inclusive ideas of self-identity
