The purpose of this study was investigation of factors affecting teachers’ motivation and itsrnimpact on performance. The research approach used the qualitative and quantitativernapproaches.The subjects of the study were teachers, school principals and supervisors of Degemrnsecondary school, Abdisa Aga secondary school, and G/T/Biru secondary schools.Purposivernsampling techniques are employed to select sample of individuals.The findings of the studyrnindicated that the first factor that affecting teachers’ motivation was characteristics of the workrnenvironment. Secondly, students disciplinary problem. Thirdly,administrative problems.Thernresearcher tried to recommend the following.The education sector should improve the workingrnenvironment and working conditions in secondary school .This should be done in order tornmotivate teachers to work.. The rate and mode of payment for teachers’ allowances, salaries andrnother benefits should be improved by setting clear payment policies and use them in order tornguide the whole process payment. The government should increase the salaries, allowances forrnthe teachers in order to motivate them. Also the promotion criteria should base on certain meritsrnalong with the proper salary scales allocation without any delay.Motivation and attractivernpackages are to be provided to the teacher .The government with its bodies has to ensure thatrnthere are attractive packages for teachers including teachers allowance such as risk allowancernand responsibility allowance loans along with paying teachers’ salaries claims of other benefits.rnImprovement of in the management style and procedures are to be applied with especially for thernfactors which are management oriented .The school management have to find other alternativesrnin providing incentives to teachers rather than depending on increase of salaries and on thernbenefits from the government.
