The purpose of this study was to assess the perception of teachers and students towards the state of Co-Curricular activities in General Secondary and Preparatory Schools of Guraghe Zone. The study employed Cross-sectional descriptive survey design to achieve its objectives. The participants of the study were 158 teachers and 375 students selected using stratified random sampling technique from the five general secondary and preparatory schools. The study used Quantitative data collected through questionnaires from the sampled teachers and students and qualitative data, Semi-structured interviews were held with five principals and six vice principals purposefully selected from the selected schools. Items related to academic achievement, students’ skill development, students’ good personality development, and students’ future career were used to measure perception of teachers and students towards the state of Co-Curricular activities. Moreover, factors affecting perception of both teachers and students were also assessed. Descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics - independent samples t-test were employed to analyze the collected data by using a Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 while the qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis approach. The results of the study unveiled that both teachers and students have positive perception towards Co-Curricular activities. The activities observed in the schools did not as such reflect the presence of positive perception towards the state of Co-Curricular activities among teachers and students of the study area. This might be due to the influential factors such as lack of knowledge, lack of trained teachers, and lack of initiation were found as the main factors affecting negatively both teachers and students. Statistically significant differences were observed between teachers and students perception towards Co-Curricular activities. Therefore, this study suggests to school administrators, Educational experts and other stakeholders to give more emphasis towards Co-Curricular activities so as to enhance teachers’ cooperativeness and students’ wellbeing.
