The purpose of the study was to examine school leadership practices and challenges in privaternsecondary schools in Bole sub city, Addis Ababa. The study reviewed the related literature onrnconcepts of leadership, practices of school leadership and challenges of school leadership. Thernstudy employed qualitative and quantitative approaches and used descriptive survey method andrnwas conducted in eight secondary schools. To collect the relevant data questionnaire, interviewrnand document analysis were used during the study. Data were gathered from 60 departmentrnheads, 8 school principals, 10 vice princepales,10 unit leaders,2 school boards and 2 parentrnstudent and teacher associations. They involved in the study being selected using simple randomrnsampling method. Data were collected through closed ended questions of questionnaire itemsrnand semi-structure question of interview items. Accordingly, questionnaire was prepared to bernfilled by department heads, unit leaders and vice principals but interviews were administered forrnprincipals, school boards and parent student and teacher associations. The data obtainedrnthrough questionnaires were analyzed using statistical package for the social science (SPSS-rnversion, 20) and statistical tools were frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviations. Thernbasis of findings were school principals practiced their leadership skills, abilities to achieve therngoal of the school, to enhance academically achievement of students and to improve theirrnbehaviors. School leaders were challenged on realization of quality of education, give feedbackrnand motivate of their staffs, accomplish of in some government policies, worked on culture basedrnon the school and based on the background of students, communities, and environments creaternnew systems. In private secondary schools when gaps are observed and the schools betterrnorganized public relations to create school-community links. Based on the findings, Principalsrnbetter to focus to realize quality of education and give motivation to staffs to work withrncoordinate. They also better to work based on their skills and abilities and based on thernbackground of the school and communities create new system to accomplish their leadership.rnFinally, principals designed their curriculums should based on the government curriculums.
