The main purpose of this study was to examine the major input factors that affect quality ofrneducation in five general secondary schools (9-10) of Gida Ayana woreda. . To conduct thisrnstudy, a descriptive survey design was employed. The five schools were selected throughrnpurposive sampling technique. Accordingly, while 65 teachers and 250 students were selectedrnrandomly, 12 principals /vice-principals and 2 supervisors were purposively selected as samplesrnof the study.. Questionnaire, interview, observation check list and document analysis were therndata gathering instruments used in this study. The quantitative data were interpreted andrnanalyzed by using statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, mean value and weightedrnmean. The finding of the study revealed that the major input factor that affect quality ofrneducation were teacher’s unfavorable attitude towards teaching and low motivation in teaching;rnincompetence of school principals and little attention to academic activities and limited schoolrnresources. In line with the above finding it was recommended that Gida Ayana woreda generalrnsecondary schools and OEB in collaboration with MoE and NGOs should improve thernavailability of instructional materials and school facilities in schools; OEB in collaboration WithrnMoE should design incentive mechanisms for teachers, upgrade teachers and provide in-servicerntraining opportunity for further education to teachers
