The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of continuous professional development inrnselected secondary schools of Guraghe Zone. The study employed descriptive survey research designrnalong with both quantitative and qualitative methods. The participants of the study were 257rnteachers, 36 principals, 6 supervisors. The study used stratified, simple random sampling techniques.rnQuestionnaires, interview, FGD, and document review were used to collect quantitative andrnqualitative data. Descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used tornanalyze quantitative data. Moreover, inferential statistics - independent samples t-test were used tornassess the extent to which male and female teachers were implemented CPD. Statistical Package forrnSocial Sciences (SPSS) version 20 was used to analyze the quantitative data. On the other hand, thernqualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis approach to triangulate the quantitative datarnanalyses. The results of the study revealed that the extent to which teachers’ engagement in thernimplementation of CPD practices such as analyzing, planning, doing, evaluating, mentoring,rnportfolio development, conducting action research, peer observation, and the overall success andrnfailures of the implementation process were inadequately implemented. On the other hand,rnstatistically significant differences were observed on the overall CPD practices between male andrnfemale teachers. The school principals, CPD facilitators, and supervisors were providing insufficientrnsupports for teachers’ CPD activities. The major challenges identified were, lack of clearrnunderstanding about the significance of CPD and its activities; lack of required knowledge and skillsrnby CPD facilitators and mentors; low motivation and commitment of teachers; time constraint due tornheavy workload; lack or absence of incentives and rewards; and lack of sufficient budget. Therefore,rnthis study suggests to school administrators, educational experts and other concerned governmentrnbodies in the Zone should build the knowledge, skills and the capacity of those responsible bodies forrnCPD program
