The major objective of this study was to assess factors that affect women’s participation inrneducational leadership in Oromia region West-Shoa Zone Abuna Gindeberet Woreda primaryrnschools. To that end a combination of both quantitative and qualitative data collectionrnmethods of used. More specifically, data were collected from 75 primary school, 15 educationrnexperts (head of WED and 14 other experts) using comprehensive sampling; 12 schoolrnleaders (six and six and six vice principals) using purposive sampling; two CRC supervisorsrnusing comprehensive sampling techniques. Questionnaire was the main instrument for datarncollection. Document analysis and interviews were also utilized to complement the datarnobtained through questionnaire. Data collected via questionnaires were analyzed usingrnstatistical tolls. Such as: percentage, mean, standard deviation, average mean scores. Datarnobtained through interview, document analysis and open- ended questions were analyzedrnqualitatively. Among other things the study revealed that women have low aspiration to seekrnand apply for educational leadership positions due to lack of self -confidence, fear ofrncompetition and devaluation (reduction) by the society. Regarding to selection criteria Lackrnof professional qualification, lack of performance appraisal results and work experience werernfound to affect women’s participation in educational leadership position. It was also foundrnthat socio-cultural beliefs and practices, family and home responsibilities and institutionalrnfactors affected women’s participation in educational leadership. The study concluded thatrnwomen have low intrinsic motivation to leadership positions. Besides that there was otherrnbarrier that affects women participation in educational leadership were social andrnpsychological development limits their participation. The overall recommendations of thernfinding were to improve women aspiration, awareness creation and rising should bernconducted through training, workshops and experience share.
