The purpose of this study was to investigate conflict management practice of instructional leaders in secondary school in Ejere woreda. The objectives of the study were to identify the causes of conflicts, the type of conflicts and find out how conflicts are being managed. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The target population was 3 secondary schools in the district with a sample size of 134 participants. Available sampling techniques were used to select a study sample of 3 schools. The sampled schools provided; of a sample size 95 teachers, 8 instructional leaders, 15 PTA & SBC and 16 Education experts as sources of information. A purposive sampling was used to select 95 teachers from the sampled schools. Regarding questionnaire and interview analysis were used for the purpose of data collection. The data gathered were analyzed using various statistical tools such as; frequency distribution, percentage, means and standard deviation and qualitative data was interpreted. The findings indicated that the major causes of conflicts in secondary schools in Ejere woreda includes; improperly service conditions, administrative in competencies of the instructional leaders, misappropriation of funds, indiscipline in the parts of students, teachers or administrators, poor academic performance and inadequate resources. The major types of conflicts mostly experienced in secondary schools of Ejere woreda include; interpersonal conflicts, structural conflicts and political conflicts. Further majority of the respondents frequently have stakeholder meetings and consultations in their schools as a way of resolving conflicts. It was recommended that there is need to have trainings on conflict resolution strategies in schools to assist in management of conflicts. The study findings will be significant in that the findings may be useful to education researchers, educational planners and other scholars of educational administration as it will hopefully increase their awareness of the values of conflict as well as conflict management practice which are constructive and benefit the school. The findings will help instructional leaders of public secondary schools and other education stakeholders to adopt measures to minimize conflicts.
