The purpose of secondary schools of study was to examine the management development rnpractice and its challenges in Akaki Kality Sub -city and secondary school. To this end three rnbasic questions were posted to investigate the current management development practice and rnchanges. To achieve this purpose descriptive survey designed used in conducting the survey, rnqualitative and quantitative techniques were employed to collect and analyze data A total of 104 rnsample respondents were taken through available sampling technique. The sample includes rnprincipals, vice principals, department heads, and club leaders Primary data were collected rnthrough questionaries’ and interview question. For quantitative part item were pilot-tested and rnmodified to ensure consistency and reliability data were analyzed through descriptive statistical rnprocedures such as frequency and percentages were used to describe the number of respondents rnand amount of perception respectively to describe the level of management development practice rnand challenges standard deviation were used to determine the validity of values. The qualitative rnwere analyzed thematically and the findings were narrated,the data analyze led to the followingrnmajor findings are, is generally accepted that the attitude of mangers, scarcity resources, and rnfinical constraints are challenges to the practice of management development in government rnsecondary schools in Akaki Kality sub-city. The challenges observed in the targeted secondary rnschools are so, critical that they can have negative influence on the effectiveness of the rnmanagement development practice. The negative influence could have repercussion on the rnlearning outcomes of students and the quality of education., priorities of training needs has an rnimpact on the performance of the school management, this means that all school staff members, rnsuch as school committee, department heads and school club leaders are encouraged to rndischarge their responsibility in more effective way, in other words, the priorities would rnenhance, the commitment and capacity of all staff members to perform their respective tasks, the rnfinding confirmed that both on-the-job and off-the-job training are delivered to principals, vice rnprincipals, department heads, and club leaders. The purpose of both types of training is to rnimprove the performance capacity of management In this study the targeted schools are founded rnrequired to finical resource constraints. It has been recommended that the finical resource are rnimportant factors for school performance to solve the problems of finical problems decries the rnexercise of sending money ,encourage the community to participate and support the schools, rncreate a new idea how to get resources, from different donors and civic society, it should be rnencourage community involvement in school connect with business civic organization, charity rnnon profitable foundation and other group and international organization. Some of possible rnfinical resources are student’s annual fees
