The risk of disasters in urban areas due to natural and man-made hazards is increasing inrnfrequency and intensity nationwide. It is now widely recognized that extreme weather events thatrnall become a regular part of life in the future. Bearing this in mind, the main purpose of thisrnstudy was investigating the practice and challenge of Disaster Risk Management in Addis Ababarncity. To this end, the pre-disaster, during disaster and post disaster practice of three DRMrninstitutions were compared. There collaborative traditions and challenges were alsorninvestigated. The study employed descriptive research design. Questionnaire, interview andrndocument analysis research methods were employed to collect data. Purposive samplingrntechniques were employed to select questioner respondents and key informant. Data analysisrnincluded explanatory, simple descriptive statistics and comparative (one-way between-groupsrnANOVA) techniques to analyze the qualitative and quantitative data, respectively. The result ofrnthe study showed that the significance values of pre-disaster and during disaster practices arernbetter practice in the institution but there is a difference among their on post disaster. Based onrnthe result of this study, the following issues are recommended: fire and disaster risk managementrncommission fire code should be ratified. Most importantly, Institutional collaboration must be inrnplace so as to serve Addis Ababa City to reduce the impact of disaster.
