his particular research examines the determinants of household participation in tourismrnactivity in nearby kebeles of lalibela town in rural areas of north Ethiopia. To accomplish this, rnthe research used household survey data from the four purposively selected nearby lalibela ruralrnkebeles with230 household respondents. The methodologies employed during the collection ofrnthe data were household survey, interview, observation, documentary review with the samplernsize of 230 respondent households so as to gather the necessary data for the study. A simplernrandom sampling procedure was employed to select 230 households of which 36% of them arernfemale–headed households. Analytical tools used were both descriptive statistics andrneconometric model. In descriptive statistics from the respondent households, it would concludernwith high or low level of participation between households, Level of participation in tourismrnactivities is closely allied with the number of frequency of community participation in tourismrnactivities. Therefore, the community participation level of index result showed that, 42% of thernrespondent household heads have highly participated with different tourism activities, while thernremaining 58% of households have lower participation. In econometric model, the quantitativerndata gathered from these techniques are analyzed and interpreted using Logit Regression inrnorder to show the determinants of households that decide on participation in tourism. Thus, arntotal of ten explanatory variables were included in the empirical model of which seven werernsignificant. These variables include sex, social status, marital status; occupation, farm sizes, rntotal household income and credit were significant factors of households’ participation ofrntourism activities.
