Insurance is a vital tool in the development and sustainability of both emerging andrndeveloped economies. It promotes stability in the global economy for individuals,rninstitutions and governments by taking on risk and dispersing them around the worldrnthrough the global reinsurance markets. It is also an effective catalyst for economicrngrowth. The main objective of this study was to examine factors influencing thernperformance of Nile Insurance Company S.C. (NIC). To achieve this objective bothrnprimary and secondary data were used. Primary data collected by means of interviewrnand structured questionnaires. Secondary data obtained from audited annual bulletins ofrnNile Insurance Company S.C. (NIC) and National Bank of Ethiopia various reports. Therntarget population was Clients, Employees and Intermediaries. The sampling techniquesrnused for this case study were simple random sampling and purposive sampling. UsingrnCochran (1997) sampling size determination formula minimum sample size of 384 wasrnused. After testing the variables using SPSS program kit we find out the following results:rnEmployees, Customers satisfactions, Brokers, Competitors price and Underwriting arernmost important determinant of performance of NIC. While authorization limit, boardrninvolvement, door-to-door service, risk acceptance and preparing a cheque and releasedrna cheque to the insured has statistical insignificant relationship with performance of NIC.rnThe study recommended that NIC must provide insurance training for clients andrnintermediaries, reducing time of processing of claims and motivate its employees.
