Stylistics, as a twentieth centuryrnphenomenon, is the study of style used in literary texts and the effect a writerrnwishes to communicate to the reader. The analysis is often made for the purpose ofrncommenting on quality and meaning in a text.rnThis thesis aims at analyzing the literary styles of four Afan aroma novels: KuusaarnGadoo. Dhaamsa Abbaa, Godaannisa, and Gurraacha Abbayaa. The first two novelsrnare written by Gadisa Biru and the rest are written by Dhaba Woyessa. Each ofrnthem contributed two novels to aroma prose writing. Hence, these novels arernanalyzed based on the major stylistic features they exhibit. It is hoped that thisrnstudy serves as an input to aroma written literature.rnThe researcher depends on literary and descriptive methods to undertake thernanalysis by employing a comparative approach. Besides, critical survey of libraryrnmaterials is made to build the related literature.rnThe thesis has four parts. The first chapter IS the introductory part. It givesrnbackground information on the research. The second chapter is devoted to therntheoretical part that deals with general consideration of stylistics. The third chapterrnis concerned with the major stylistic analysis and the last one presents thernconclusion.rnThe analysis has revealed that simile and personification are dominant figures ofrnspeech. Dhaba used a total of 362 similes in both novels whereas Gadisa employedrnonly 45. Dhaba is a writer whose preference for simile is so high. He prefers to usernlexical repetition and parallelism. Rhetorical questions are also used as stylisticrneffects in the novels. The purposes of the similes in Gadisa's novels involve thematicrnpreoccupations. Gadisa used 115 proverbs that serve various purposes and manyrnforeign words are used in Kuusaa Gadoo.
