This thesis attempts to analyze some selected short stories of Edgar Allan Poernfrom the stylistic perspective. Within the stylistic analysis, foregrounding is taken as arnframework. Hence, the analysis focuses on the prominent linguistic features and literaryrndevices.rnThe initial cause of this thesis is the course entitled, “Stylistic Analysis ofrnFictionâ€; which could be a new approach to analyze fiction deeply. This is justified by thernpilot study, and has got a hopeful remark— that leads to the Masters thesis.rnThe study has four chapters: Introduction, Review of Related Literature, Analysisrnand Conclusion. In the first chapter: the background of the study, statement of thernproblem, preliminary questions of the thesis, significance and limitations of the studyrnhave been discussed. The second chapter has covered the related literature done in thisrnarea, and the theories that are related with stylistics with possible illustrations.rnIn the third chapter, the selected short stories have been analyzed focusing on therndominant foregrounded features. To utilize foregrounding properly, special attention andrnclose reading have been done in the selection of the short stories. Hence, in each analysisrnparallelism, repetition and various kinds of deviation have been taken to illustrate thernanalysis, which is followed by conclusion.rnThe stylistic analysis made on Poe’s short stories revealed that almost all thernforegrounding features, like parallelism, repetition, and deviation are highly manipulated,rnthat shows his unique style.
