Factors Affecting Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device Utilization Among Family Planning Clients Attending Sexual And Reproductive Health Centers Addis Ababa Ethiopia
Background: Globally, IUCD is the second most commonly used contraceptive methodrn(next to female sterilization) among married women of reproductive age. Although it isrnthe safest, very effective, long acting and reversible contraceptive method, in manyrndeveloping countries including Ethiopia IUCD is used at a very low rate compared tornother modern contraceptive methods.rnObjective: To assess factors affecting IUCD utilization among FP clients attendingrnSexual and Reproductive Health centers in Addis Ababa.rnMethod: A quantitative facility based unmatched case control study was carried out inrnAddis Ababa selected SRH centers of MSIE and FGAE from May1 to July 30, 2014.rnCases were women of reproductive age who used IUCD during the study, whereasrncontrols were women of reproductive age who used hormonal contraceptives (OCPsrnand injectable) during the study.rnThe source population for the study was women of reproductive age who came to thernselected sexual and reproductive health centers for FP services. Accordingly, 113rnwomen of reproductive age who used IUCD during the study were included as cases,rnand 216 women of reproductive age who used hormonal contraceptives (OCPs andrninjectables) during the study were enrolled as controls in the study.rnResults: Bivariate analysis showed that age, marital status, monthly family income,rnfamily size, number of pregnancy, number of alive children, age of youngest child,rndesired number of children and IUCD use causes infertility had significant associationrnwith IUCD use (P-value
