Background: HIV infection in gynecological surgical diseases (GSDs) is associated with higherrncomplications but epidemiological data in Ethiopia is scarce.rnObjective: To determine the proportion, pattern and factors associated with HIV among GSDsrnpatients and provide useful information to other set-up.rnMaterials and Method: This two-year retrospective cross sectional study enrolled consecutiverncard numbers operated from sept‘1 /2004 E.C. through 5/13/2005 E.C for gynecologicalrnsurgeries in GMH. The patients‘ socio-demographic characteristics and associated factors werernobtained using structured questionnaire. All Sero-positive women were linked to ART care.rnThe outcome measures were proportion of women with HIV positive results, associated factorsrnand mortality rate over the peri-operative follow up period.rnResults: The overall proportion of HIV positive result was 6.4% (39/608) with women agedrn35- 45 years having the highest proportion (11.9%). Of the HIV positive patients, 18% (7/39)rnwere on antiretroviral drugs. STIs (p
