In this research paper I argue the existence of double standard application in relation to motherrntongue medium education in primary schools in the capital city of Oromia regional state,rnFinfine. In Oromia regional state the medium of instruction in primary schools is Afan Oromornexcept in the capital City. Due to the absence of primary schools which uses Afan Oromo as arnmedium of instruction parents and children are denied their rights. Parents could not exerciserntheir right to direct their children’s development which is recognized under CRC. Children arernalso denied basically the right to learn in their first language which is recognized by UNESCO. Irnalso argue that the absence of the school exposes children to the denial of many rights such asrnthe right to rest and play, the right to participate in cultural and artistic rights and etc. It is arnproblem for children who are born in Finfine and for those who begin primary education inrnother Oromia zones and came to Finfine to continue their primary education in Afan Oromo andrntheir parents.
