The importance of information in development has beenrnaccepted internationally. The present study examines thernways of providing scientific, technological andrnmanagerial information, development in Kenya.rnnecessary for industrial The document reviews the industrialization processrnin Kenya from the early part of this century and morernparticularly during the post-independence period. In thisrncontext, consideration has been given to: the structuralrnadjustments programmers and policies adopted by therngovernment, and the role of small scale industries inrnnational economy. The institutions that supportrnindustrialization is also discussed.rnProblems that hamper industrialization, such as,rntechnology transfer methods and modalities adopted; lackrnof industrial information , support systems; lack ofrnappropriate policies; manpower, managerial and financialrnresources; inefficient co-ordination mechanism; and therncomplex patenting procedures, are reviewed.rnTechnology transfer to developing countries withrnemphasis on Kenya, is discussed and the impediments tornthe process are mentioned. The study examines through systems analysis thernfeatures and factors of the Centre that needrnstrengthening and enhancement to enable it perform itsrnfunctions efficiently and effectively, and appropriaternrecommendations are made. A prototype database consistingrnof profiles of institutions, experts, research projects, rninformation Systems and bibliographic records, andrnanother database of relevant national regulations (mainlyrnindustrial laws and regulations) has been created. Thernprototype database can be adapted by KENSIDOC and otherrninformation systems that provide information tornentrepreneurs, researchers, government executives, etc.rnThe thesis concludes with recommendations to assist inrnthe promotion of industrial development in Kenya
