This study investigated the information supportrnsystem for energy planning in Zambia and presentsrnpossible ways of strengthening the existing informationrnsystem and services . A systems analysis has been carriedrnout to evaluate the existing information services at thernEnergy Planning Unit and results presented and commentedrnupon. Quality assurance characteristics have been used t ornmeasure the relevancy, value and quality of informationrnservices and products for the energy planners andrndecision makers at the Energy Planning Unit. In thisrncontext, a user requirement analysis has also been done.rnFindings from the interviews with energy planners andrndecision makers are presented.rnIn addition , a survey of t he information systems inrnin situations in the energy sector and those related to itrnhas been carried out and proposals made f o r a mutuallyrncompatible manual and automated network arrangement.rnThe draft proposals on national information policyrnf or Zambia is reviewed with the view t o examining thernpolicy statements relating to the establishment of arncoherent information infrastructure with particularrnreference to the energy sector in the country.
