Background: Critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Units are prone to developrnvarying degrees of agitation and painful experiences. Despite the many researches and knowledgernand practice assessments done in the developed world, there has not been significant studies whichrndeeply looked in to the knowledge, attitude and practices of physicians in Ethiopia regarding therninitiation, maintenance and withdrawal of sedative and analgesic medications and the prevention,rndiagnosis and treatment of delirium. rnObjectives: to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice on sedation, analgesia and deliriumrnamong physicians working in the ICU of three hospitals in Addis Ababa. rnMethods and Materials: a multi-center cross sectional study done in 03 different hospitals in AddisrnAbaba, physicians who consent and with experiences working in the ICU were included. The datarnwas collected with Google forms and then entered on SPSS and a descriptive analysis undertakenrnwith SPSS software. rnResults: The overall knowledge of participants on pain, sedation and delirium monitoring andrnmanagement was 71.8%, while the attitude and practices were 80.06% and 53.17% respectively.rnHaving a training on sedation and delirium monitoring and management was found to bernassociated with good practice on the screening and management of pain, agitation and delirium. rnConclusion and Recommendations: This survey has shown the presence of poor practicernregarding the evaluation and management of pain, agitation and delirium despite moderaternknowledge and good attitude. Preparing formal on job trainings to physicians practicing in ICUsrnmight help improve the practice.
