Successes And Challenges Of Using Social Media As Source Of News The Case Of Etv News Channel

The objective of this study was to investigate the major successes and challenges of using socialrnmedia as sources of News; the case of ETV News channel. The study used descriptive research designrnto describe the phenomena of successes and challenges of using social media as sources of News.rnBoth primary and secondary sources of data were applied. In order to accomplish the objective of thernstudy both questionnaire and interview were used as data collection methods. Questionnaires wererndistributed for reporters and editors. Face to face interviews were also conducted with News channelrnmanagers and editor. The study found that social media are used as sources of News under ETV. Itrnwas also identified that Face book and Twitter are the two major social media platforms that used asrnsources of News. On ETV, it was found that one of the major challenges of social media is fake News.rnThe study suggested that the level of investigation of verification and truthfulness of social media asrnsources of News should be based on latest software that minimize the verification duration, by usingrnthe best practices of other international media organizations.
