Though traditionally widespread, the art of horn utensils production and the lise of horn utensilsrnare vanishing today throughout Ethiopia in my study area, East Wollega. Besides the decliningrnof the art and the use of utensils made of horn, there is a glaring paucity of research meant tornappreciate or document this vanishing indigenous knowledge.rnThe pwpose of this study was therefore, to document and describe the declining art of fashioningrnhousehold utensils from horn and preserving the local knowledge embodied in it both textuallyrnand digitally. Towards this end, a qualitative research approach was lIsed including thernfollowing data gathering tools: observation, interview andfocus group discussion. The datarngathered using these methods were transcribed, translated and thematically categorized andrnanalyzed.rnThe finding of the research shows that the continuity of the art and utility of the horn utensils isrnat risky stage due to the extensive diffusion of the factory products like plastics, metal and glassrnutensils in low cost, the artisans use traditional way of producing horn utensils, the art is onlyrnconfined to the elder artisans, and the artisans have limited access to basic raw material andrnmarket opportunity to sell their products.rnIn order to preserve the knowledge and skills of horn utensils and efficient way of production, rnthe zonal and woreda culture and tourism office, the woreda technical and vocational trainingrncenter in collaboration with the artisan groups should give awareness creation and short termrntrainings to the youth on how to preserve, develop and transmit the skills and the knowledge ofrnhorn utensils production and its continuity.
