The main objective of this research is to assess the practice and challenges of Green Procurementrnin three selected UN agencies in Ethiopia namely UNECA, UNDP & UNOPS. The gap identifiedrnin this research is the implementation problem of green procurement in the procurement activitiesrnat sourcing, bid evaluation and technical evaluation stages. According to the preliminaryrninterview conducted at the beginning of the research stage the main reasons for the gap was lackrnof management support and the awareness level of procurement practitioners and employees. Thernresearcher employed mixed research design method to assess the practice by raising four basicrnquestions that revolve around awareness, management support and challenges of greenrnprocurement. The researcher developed his tools based on the four basic questions and thernrequired information was retrieved from the respondents. The respondents were the procurementrnpractitioners, requistioners, technical evaluation committee, procurement cases reviewingrncommittees and employees who works in the area of climate change. The data collected throughrnstructured questionnaire analyzed using descriptive statistical technique which includesrnfrequencies & mean using and tables along with the interview. From this particular research inrnadequate management support and lack of awareness is found to be one of the reasons for thernimplementation problem. In addition to this additional reasons are identified. These are the usagernof whole life cycle approach is complex particularly for the environmental attributes of the productrnand the member states are not in agreement to fully implement the green procurement conceptrnsince it discriminates vendors from the developing nations. The researcher also comes up withrnsome possible suggestions & recommendations so as to tackle the problems. These are, arrangerncapacity development and awareness creation programme for both the procurement practitionersrnand vendors and integrating sustainable procurement rules with main procurement rules.rnKey Words: Green Procurement, Sustainable Procurement
