Crisis Management Practices Of Hotels In Addis Ababa During Covid-19 And Their Impact On Performance

Given the increasing number of travel restrictions, the COVID-19 outbreak has deal a crippling blow to the hotel industry. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the crisis management practices used by hotels to cope up with the effects of the pandemic and the effect the practices had on their performance. A refined model based on the crisis management model of Israeli was used in this research. The study used a questionnaire for evaluating the importance and usage of different practices for crisis management. Follow-up in person interviews were conducted to validate the results of the study. The results show that hotels have used practices they deemed are important. The practices under the pandemic prevention category had a significant impact on their performance and other categories also. This study contributes to the knowledge of contingency planning for crisis management across crisis periods. The paper concludes with recommendations for further research on the recovery and adaptability of the business sector.rnKey Words: Crisis Management, COVID-19, Hotel industry, Performance
