Assessment Of Knowledge Attitude And Practice Towards Hepatitis B Viral Infection Among Addis Ababa University Regular Undergraduate Students Of College Of Health Science Addis Ababa Ethiopia 2014
Background: Hepatitis B is blood born liver infection caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is therntenth leading cause of death among all diseases worldwide and the fifth leading cause of death fromrninfectious disease worldwide, surpassed only by lower respiratory tract infections, diarrheal diseases,rnHIV/AIDS, and TuberculosisrnObjective: To assess knowledge, Attitude and Practice towards Hepatitis B viral infection amongrnAddis Ababa University, regular undergraduate students of College of Health Science.rnMethod: Institution based cross sectional study was conducted among Addis Ababa Universityrnstudents of college of Health Science, from October 2013 to June 2014. The study population wasrnselected among students of College of Health Science undergraduate program, with a sample size ofrn422 students. Data was collected by using self-administered, structured and pre tested questionnaire.rnData was cleaned, coded and entered into computer and analyzed using SPSS version 20. The degreernof association between dependent and independent variables was described using crude odds ratiorn(COR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with 95% confidence interval (CI).rnResults: A total of 415 students were interviewed with a response rate of 98.3%, among them 91.1%rnhad good knowledge, 89.9% had positive attitude and 68.92% had good practice towards hepatitis B.rnThe attitude and practice of the respondents was found to be significantly associated with theirrnacademic year, however, it was not found to have association with the knowledge of the studyrnparticipants.rnConclusion: KAP of the study participants in this study was high, though the effect of little lack ofrnknowledge, positive attitude and good practice can affect the community in which the studyrnparticipants work now and then.rnRecommendations: Hepatitis B prevention and control implementation guideline and hepatitis Brndata has to be derived, and from this guideline each concerned bodies including Health SciencernCollege of universities could work out their own strategy on hepatitis B
