Background:Community-acquired pneumonia is an important cause of morbidity inrndeveloped countries and an important cause of morbidity and mortality in developingrncountries. Ethiopia is ranked sixth out of 15 countries with the highest death rate duernto pneumonia among children under five. rnObjective: The aim of this study was to determine the median time to recover fromrnsevere community acquired pneumonia and its predictors among pediatric patients inrnselected hospitals, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021. rnMethods: Institution based retrospective cohort study was conducted among407rnpediatrics patients who were admitted with severe community acquired pneumonia inrnselected public hospitals in Addis Ababa. A systematic random sampling method wasrnused to select eligible medical records. A structured checklist was used to collect data.rnEpi data version 4.2 was used to enter the dataand analyzed using STATA Versionrn16.0. The survival function and each predictor were described using the Kaplan Meierrnsurvival curve and the log-rank test. rnResult:Out of the 407 selected medical charts, 388 of them found to be complete withrna response rate of 95.5%. The overall median recovery time was 6 days.The rate ofrnrecovery from severe community-acquired pneumonia was 11.5 per 100 personrnday observation. Predictors significantly associated with recovery time include Age,rnbeing stunted, late presentation to seek care and co-morbidity rnConclusion and recommendation: The total recovery rate from severe community-rnacquired pneumonia was low and the median recovery time was long. Younger agernand early presentation to the health care institutionrnwere proven to hasten recoveryrntime.rnTherefore, measures thatincrease recovery rate and hasten recovery time shouldrnbe strengthened.
