The Muslim communities throughout Ethiopia have contributed in various felids ofrnhuman endeavor towards the development of Ethiopian society and have had arnconsiderable impact on its history. Among those Ethiopian Muslims who haverncontributed in this way, we find Shaykh Sayyid Busra of Gata, Wollo (Sayyid alBa'),rnwho was a leading Sufi leader in Southern Wollo in the 18th _19 th centuries.rnThe thesis begins with the background of the study, review of related literature,rnobjectives of the study "nd methodology. All are included in chapter one. Thernobjective of this thesis is to introduce Shaykh Sayyid Busra Ay Mohammed andrnpresent nine selected Arabic manuscripts of his, with some discussion of therngeographical location and the history of his center of education and shrine in Gata,rnSouthern Wollo. All these are presented in chapter two. As Shaykh Sayyid Busrarnwas a Sufi leader, chapter three briefly discusses what Sutism is and what its rolernhas been in Ethiopian history. Chapter four presents in detail the biography ofrnShaykh Sayyid Busra Ay Mohammed. Chapter five is the core of the thesis; itrnpresents the nine selected manuscripts of Shaykh Sayyid Busra with philologicalrndescription and catalog. Finally the thesis is summarized in chapter six.
