The main objective of the study is to investigate the challenges of intercountry adoption andrncome up with feasible policy alternatives that can contribute to the implementation of child rightsrnin the country. A qualitative study is used which included both primary and secondary data. Inrnorder to achieve the results, purposive sampling is used in identifying and selecting appropriaternorganizations and respondents in the study. Relevant information was collected through keyrninformant interview from experts of MoWCYA and four nongovernment organizations (2 localrnand 2 international). Data thematically organized and analysed qualitatively based upon logicalrnand descriptive analysis.rnThe study was able to find out that the Ethiopian government has adopted different policies andrnconventions on the right of children. Despite some notable progresses, child fundamental rightsrnhave remained major challenges in the country.Legislatives/policies introduced over the pastrnyears have not made significant difference to the implementation of alternative child carernpackages. Systemic inadequacies, illegal financial gains and corruption, child trafficking, buyingrnselling, and abducting and falsification of documents have been recognized as major problemsrnfacing in the intercountry policy implementation. Therefore, effective implementation, rnmonitoring and evaluation of pro-children policies/legislative have sought to decrease thernprevalence of the problems. Wherever and whenever intercountry adoption is applied as arnmeasure of last resort and before institutional care, it should be carried out based on the principlernof the best interest of the child
